More than 17 years ago, I took a leap of faith and left the corporate world to find work more in alignment with my heart. I left behind the security of stock options, benefits and a 401k and enrolled in beauty school. When I graduated I was hired by a salon that was then the best in the U.S. for French cutting. Eventually I landed in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge and found a community that sustains me.
I love my work. It keeps me in touch with my core values, connection and courage. I get to meet people from every walk of life and they enrich my world. Making someone feel good about how they look changes how they feel, which in turn changes how I feel. I make a difference for people, and I get paid for it. It’s a win-win.
Beauty inspires me. It’s a multifaceted concept, so much deeper than just aesthetics. It stems from harmony and balance, which must include opposite shapes and colors. Beauty demands acceptance.I see myself as a modern day healer, using beauty as a medium. I aim to help women embrace who they are with confidence. I’m grateful to have found a way to express my creativity in a way that gives back.
Over the years I’ve trained with the top color specialist from L’Oreal Professional and taken classes with Vidal Sassoon for precision cuts, Jamison Shaw for French cutting, Yosh Toya for curls, Candy Shaw for Balayage, hair painting and styling, and Angelo Seminara, Davines Artistic Director and British Hairdresser of the Year, for wedding hairstyles.
My work is also informed by spending time in nature and by my personal yoga practice. In my free time, if I’m not traveling, you’ll find me wining and dining in Portland’s amazing food scene, hiking and exploring the Pacific Northwest.
“Doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life” – Wayne Dyer
Born and raised in Hood River, I loved tagging along as a little girl to my Mom’s hair appointments. Later my aunt opened her own salon in a small town. It was a community hub where people would always stop into chat, and I loved how that felt. I started cutting my friends’hair when we were teenagers, and always thought of it as a fun, creative process.
I’ve been styling hair since 2007. In the course of developing my skills and craft, I’ve traveled to New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles to train with some of the best stylists in the country.
I’ve attended the New York City Bumble and Bumble University seven times, which allowed me to train alongside other top national hairdressers to learn the best techniques and gain artistic inspiration. In 2015, I worked with Bumble and Bumble Global Artistic Director Laurent Philippon when I was selected to participate in their first ever Curling Iron Artistry program. I’m currently also the only certified ARROJO American Wave specialist in Oregon. I came back to Hood River in 2015 following four years at Keter Salon in Berkeley, California, which won“Best of the East Bay” six years running.
I describe my hair styling philosophy as “radical self expression.” I hope my clients leave feeling more like themselves and that their styles enhance their life experiences after they leave my chair. I feel I offer clients honesty and trust, and I’m a great listener.
When I’m not working, I love fitness, travel and exploring the Gorge with my husband and our two chihuahuas, Sammy and Brooklyn. A certified yoga instructor, I believe in feeling your best inside and out. What I love most about being back in Hood River is the close community. The people here are creative, artistic and open to letting me work my craft.
I’ve had a passion for doing hair for as long as I can remember. As a kid I would style my Mom and Grandmother’s hair whenever they would let me, and I was the hair stylist for all my friends’high school dances. Eventually I decided to take it seriously and enrolled at the Aveda Institute of New Mexico in Albuquerque. I have been a stylist for 11 years and love it. The work is fun, engaging, challenging and ultimately the perfect job for me.
Currently I specialize in color and styling but am expanding my focus to include specialty men’s cuts. I’m excited to study straight razor shaves with the hope of providing quality barbering services in Hood River. I love connecting with my clients and giving them the opportunity to express their individuality. I don’t just cut hair, I consider myself an artist. I work to create a look. Hair is the one accessory you wear every day, it should express who you are.
I moved to the Gorge eight years ago to follow my dream of living in the Pacific Northwest and being within hiking distance of a waterfall every day. In addition to enjoying the trails with my best pal, Mogely the dog, I like rafting and biking. I’m also studying to be an herbalist at The School of Traditional Western Herbalism.
